We provide the dignity of employment to impoverished communities that will produce, plant, and protect emerging forests. Starting with a job, we hire and train local workers to grow seedlings in a nursery or forest project. We provide farmers with free trees, and the community with the skills to harvest and maintain emerging and restored forests. Our pilot project in Arbegona, Ethiopia, aims to grow 5 million trees! The project will pay workers to plant, grow, guard, distribute, and monitor and report on the trees. The infusion of cash into the local economy will provide more jobs, pay for food and housing, as well as school tuition and educational resources. The socioeconomic boost will help ICCM to continue hiring, training, and retaining the BEST teachers for over 1,000 students. Additionally, emerging and restored forests will reduce massive problems caused by soil erosion and dry aquifers. Trees will help deepen the soil, retaining water and providing access to springs of clean water, as well as increasing the quantity and quality of vegetation in the area. Team Tree is our full-circle, monthly, holistic approach to empower children and their community through agroforestry and reforestation efforts. We’ve partnered with Accelerated Restoration Collaborative (ARC), the minds behind the largest reforestation effort in the world, to ensure our restoration success!
